![]() ![]() Several women are masturbating, a rare occurrence in classical nude photography but one found in Schiele’s drawings or Balthus’ paintings. ![]() Leiter photographs two women in bed together, one dressed in a man’s shirt, the other in a feminine negligee. They are dressing, undressing, pulling a skirt’s zipper, unbuttoning a blouse, or simply daydreaming. ![]() One is pensively holding a cup of coffee, another still has rollers in her hair, her face creased by the pillow one is rolling down her black stockings, another is lying on the floor against a background of slightly out-of-focus and crumpled news- paper sheets. They are waking up, taking a bath, applying lipstick or makeup, smoking the first cigarette of the day. These women are completely natural in front of Leiter’s camera, and uninhibited. Leiter’s nudes have a spontaneous and romantic quality, like the scattered pages of a diary, or stills from early movies. ![]()

James Anthony Froude, who occupied the Regius chair between 1892 and his death two years later, had been his predecessor’s great rival. The relationship between Wrath and Emilia is explored further and I loved watching their relationship grow. As this is the mid-book in the series, it was more character-driven where the reader further looks at Vittoria’s death, the world-building, and the characters themselves. In this story, Emilia has ventured to Hell, which is divided into seven circles that are each ruled by one of the Wicked Princes. While this was not a factor for my reading experience, it is something to explore if the genre level matters to you as a reader. One change from the first novel is that this installment ventures more into the New Adult genre compared to upper young adult, although it still follows along with the same level of more adult content as some other young adult series. Even though the third novel is set to be published this year, it is going to be a very difficult wait after the cliffhanger ending in this story. Kingdom of the Cursed picks up right where its predecessor, Kingdom of the Wicked, ends and sets up the final novel, Kingdom of the Feared, perfectly. Before I get into the actual review for this novel, I will start with the audiobook for this series, so far, is epic from the sound effects to the production value. ![]() ![]() Taking her cue from the creator of the story-chain genre, Eva Luna, like Scheherazade, responds to her lover Roll Carle's request for a story with two dozen tales of love, death, revenge, war, and politics. ![]() A collection of magical-realist short stories narrated by Allende's recent heroine, Eva Luna (Eva Luna, 1988 Of Love and Shadows, 1987 The House of Spirits, 1985), which are set in nameless Latin American countries, any time in the past, and peopled with characters who could be and probably are meant to be someone else. ![]() ![]() Martin's "The Way of Cross and Dragon" takes an unyielding look at the future of religion, and Octavia E. Groundbreaking classics and author masterworks abound in this collection, which includes Harlan Ellison's "Jeffty Is Five," a nostalgic tale about a boy who remains five years old - a conduit to the 1940s world of comic books, candy bars, and serial radio shows - while society keeps rolling on and John Varley's "The Persistence of Vision," an unforgettable story about one man's experience in an isolated colony of deaf and blind people.
